High School Basketball - Hillcrest Tournament

In their very first High School tournament the Lions came away with the Championship.

Lions defeated Harmony in their opener 52-4. Van Hmun led all scorers with 25 points. George Thang scored 11 & Peyton McCrary had 10.
This was the first time the Lions had 3 players score double digits. Van’s 25 points eclipsed Austin Ramsey’s previous school record of 22 points.

In the Championship vs Hillcrest, Lions won 33-30 as Lazaro Alberto led all scorers with 13 points.

What a whirlwind in activity for 144 hours before the holidays for Boys Basketball. Lose Austin Ramsey on Thursday night to a broken tibia. Saturday win 2 games 52-4 and 33-30 to win the Hillcrest Tournament with a 6 man squad.

We see 4 players score double digits in the games. Lazaro 13 which is a personal high, Peyton with 10 which is another personal high, George scores 11 which is the second time this year he has double digits. Then Van goes to score 25 which is a personal high & a School record.

Then on Monday & Tuesday 2 road trips. First, to Cornerstone and then to Buena Vista. Making new friends in the area.

We have Bryson take one to the mouth Tuesday night impacting 3 teeth. He is fine now, teeth restored.

Yep, what a 144 hours. Hope all have a Merry Christmas 🎄, get some rest and come back with zeal as we begin 2024.
“Champions are Champions not because they do anything extraordinary but because they do the ordinary things better than anyone else.” Chuck Noll, Pittsburgh Steelers Coach

🏀 “Practice does not make the athlete. It is the quality and intensity of practice that makes the athlete.” Ray Meyer

2023 - 2024 Basketball Christmas break is here. We are grateful that both Bryson & Austin’s surgery went well.

The team will return to practice in early January. Awaiting them is an expanded conditioning program.

We look forward to the second half of the schedule with eyes now clearly on the future of HS Basketball at First Odessa Christian Academy and our 1st year in TAPPS.

Middle School

Middle school basketball wrapped up a furious 24 hours playing in San Angelo Monday night & then at home Tuesday night

After the break MS gets back into action playing Embassy on Friday, 5 January in our gym. Keep an eye out cause we will offer Open Gym shooting opportunities on the 2nd & 3rd of January. There will be practice on 4 Jan.

It will be very important for MS players to journal 📝 practices in 2024 as we start to scheme sets and plays for them going forward. They should be journaling every day we have practice in 2024
